Gandalf arrives at Edoras to warn Theoden of his danger. Together they fly northward and through a mountain pass to Helm's Deep. There they meet Eomer, a man from a nearby village which has been attacked by Uruk-hai. Gandalf decides that the only course for him is to directly attack Isengard and orders Eomer to fortify Helm's Deep before returning home with his men.
